Solar panels

The sun is the most abundant source of energy avaliable to us. Many New Zealand homes are exposed to 10 - 15 times more energy from the sun than what they use in gas or electricity. Solar panels (also known as photovoltaic (PV) systems) make use of the sun’s energy. Solar Panels convert sunlight into electricity, which is then stored in batteries.

Fitting solar panels to your home can reduce the cost of your power bills and lessen your greenhouse gases emissions.

There are options for those already connected to the national grid to ‘sell’ any power generated back to electricity suppliers. This reduces the need for large batteries to store electricity, while still staying connected.

Further information can be found on EECA’s Solar electricity (photovoltaics) fact sheet and on the ENERGYWISETM Generating your own renewable energy webpage.
