This is the most beautiful of our native birds (I think) and is critical in the natural distribution of our large fruiting native trees like miro and puriri. Make it your step to plant one of these great trees for the kereru in your town!

Plant a native tree? You obviously don't know all the restrictions the local bodies throw at you once they are planted! By the way - every creature in New Zealand is beautiful.

Well it's not like the local bodies make it easy to find out. I tried searching for info on the Hutt City website - came across all sorts of junk refering to recent election pledges and media releases more than 3 years old, but nothing relevant to native plants on residential properties. We're lucky, tui come to our plum tree every year. But thry're the only natives I see.

I love Kereru - the sound when they fly past is awesome! I'm lucky enough to live next to a wide tract of bush, so we have them around fairly often. :)
