Wow I suspect these little numbers that get switched on without thinking use a bit of electricity. Mine has a light, a fan that doesn't seem to be very efficient and four heat lamps.
Does anyone know if it's possible to disable the fan so we open the window to let out steam instead?
I'm going to see if I can remove a couple of the heat lamps.

Hi Tel. I think you make a really good point. I've got an electric fan in my cave of a bathroom which switches on automatically with the light. I wouldn't mind so much, but is keeps going for ages after you turn off the light and leave the room.
I'm not sure of the best way to disable your fan, but if you're going to be dealing with electricity, get an electrician to do it. Anyone else got any ideas?

Ok this doesn't answer the question but here goes anyway...
We don't have a fan/extractor etc in our bathroom, so we leave the bathroom window open to clear the steam. There is no small, secure window - just a full-size one. With three people having showers in close succession then all leaving the house, the steam never clears before we leave. So we have a lock on the OUTSIDE of the bathroom door. That way we can leave the bathroom window open, lock the door between the bathroom and the rest of the house, and leave with confidence.
So far nobody has climbed in the window and stolen our loo paper.

We have a fan with four heat lamps. We could not believe the wattage of the lamps (275W each!). So we unscrewed two of them to lessen the load but give us a bit of heat, we plan to not use any in the summer.

Yeah the window option seems much better. Although because the switches are all so close together it's easy to just flick them all on without thinking.
Crikey 275W EACH! I can't read what it says on mine but no doubt it's the same. That's a lot of power. and let's face it when you get out of the shower you're warm anyway.
thanks for the comments.
