I just watched an interesting little snippet on VideoJug that says you can shave with olive oil. The demonstration shows a woman shaving her legs, but I assume it would work for shaving any part of your body. http://www.videojug.com/film/how-to-shave-with-olive-oil Should I believe this? Has anyone tried it? The reason I'm asking before I try is that last time I played with olive oil it was a disaster. :( I had heard that you could put olive oil through your hair as a conditioning treatment - but they forgot to mention that it would take about 25 washes in very hot water with lots of shampoo to get it out of your hair again - and meanwhile all your clothes and pillow cases would become coated in oil (not to mention the inside of your crash helmet). So anyway - if shaving with olive oil, how do you rinse your razor? Presumably it's no use rinsing it in water, so will the razor end up all clogged? Just wondering...

Thanks for that Lindis. Sorry to hear about your tale of olive oil woe. Hopefully this time you'll have more luck. I may take a little more convincing for my morning shave, but I'll keep it in mind. Anyone else keen to try it?

I can see how olive oil would work as a shaving lotion for the legs, but I'm thinking perhaps not for shaving the face - could cause a fairly scary breakout! I tried to use olive oil as moisturiser once, without too much success. It was all over the bathroom and all over me! Sometimes I wish I would think a little harder before deciding something is a good idea... :)

Hi Tamara, thinking is over-rated. Doing is much better. You should really try shaving your legs with olive oil then tell us all how it goes. :-D

Keep your blades in olive oil - they'll stay sharp for months!

oooh that sounds like a good tip, mcjerm. I would assume you'd have to rinse the olive oil off thoroughly before shaving - unless you're going to use it as your shaving lotion.
Mcjerm, have you ever taken the next step and actually shaved with the olive oil?

I know that mens grooming is pretty important but with Olive oil really? I know its good for the skin and when eaten or cooked with but i'm sure there are some great natural shaving products that could be used in place of olive oil I can't help but think of how many times you would have to rinse your face to get the oil off.

Olives are rich in monounsaturated fatty acids (oleic acid) and they are a good source of vitamin E. Monounsaturated fatty acids are more stable than polyunsaturated fats, and therefore their presence makes the cellular membranes more stable themselves against the action of free radicals
Thanks

My hubby has ditched shaving foam for his face (yeah no more disposable cans), he uses lathered soap mixed with hand/body moisturiser - works like a dream, very smooth close shave, no ingrown hairs or irritations and moisturises his face (no need for aftershave lotion either).
We have ecostore soap and living nature moisturiser. Still comes in plastic bottles but at least they're recycle code 2 which is recycled in nearly all districts.
