Climate Neutral Network Meeting

4 June 2008

The United Nations Environment Programme opened membership of the Climate Neutral Network to businesses and other organisations.

The Network is a platform for the exchange of information to support businesses and organisations committed to reducing their greenhouse gas emissions.

New Zealand was among the founding members of the network. Now New Zealand businesses are showing leadership - joining the network in record numbers. On the launch day, 4 June, more than 50 per cent of member businesses were from New Zealand.

Meridian Energy and Landcare Research, which runs the carbon neutrality programme carboNZero, were among the first companies to join the network. They held the first meeting of New Zealand members on the eve of the World Environment Day. At the meeting, a presentation by UNEP was followed by an address by Hon Trevor Mallard, who congratulated the assembled businesses and provided an up-date on the work of Carbon Neutral Public Sector. Trade Me, Christchurch Airport and New Zealand Wine Company also shared their stories about reducing carbon emissions and achieving carbon neutrality.
