Winter relief has come just in time for those living in the lower North Island with an extension to the Home Energy Advice Centre. After a successful pilot in the Wellington region, the service has been extended to Horowhenua, Manawatu, Wairarapa and the whole of the Kapiti Coast, allowing residents in those areas to access free and impartial advice regarding their home energy needs.
The Advice Centre aims to help people save money on their energy bills and make smart decisions about their energy needs. The toll free number (0800 388 588) allows residents to access expert advice about everything from insulation to energy efficient appliances. With a few small adjustments, residents can make considerable savings to their power bills. The service also has information about the different government subsidies and financial assistance available for households.
Energy Advisor Sarah Fee explains, “We aim to help people create a warmer, drier, healthier and more energy efficient home. People may be considering putting in insulation, new heating, or looking to upgrade appliances. We are here to discuss each household’s individual requirements and to help work out the best solutions”.
In addition to the financial and health benefits of using less energy and having a drier home, there are also considerable environmental benefits as well, as it lowers CO2 emissions and puts less stress on the country’s infrastructure. Therefore just from a simple phone call you can do a little bit to help the planet.
Don’t worry if you feel like you’re missing out, as it is hoped that the scheme will be further extended throughout the country, with the service planned to be available to Auckland and Christchurch in the near future.
The toll free advice line (0800 388 588) is available Monday-Thursday 10am to 4pm. You can also check out the www.energyadvice.org.nz website, or email an Energy Advisor at energyadvice@sustaintrust.org.nz if you prefer.
