Karori Wildlife Sanctuary played host to delegates from the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), including Executive Director Achim Steiner and a number of UNEP officials.
Chief Executive Nancy McIntosh-Ward gave a tour of the Sanctuary and together with Achim Steiner commemorated World Environment Day with the planting of a native tree. Mr Steiner was impressed with the development of the Sanctuary since his last visit three years ago, particularly the rapid rise of the tuatara and kaka populations.
On 8 June, the Sanctuary will offer a unique experience for the community by taking visitors behind the scenes, including going off-track with conservation staff, and many opportunities to get hands dirty.
