World Environment Day is a national event in which all New Zealanders can participate through organising a wide range of community/regional events and activities.

Community funding was made available to financially assist organisations, groups, schools and early childhood centres who wished to undertake an event or activity during the week of World Environment Day (2–8 June 2008).

The funding rounds have now closed. The Environment Minister Trevor Mallard announced the successful applicants from the first funding round on 2 April and the successful applicants for the second round on 24 April
